Temi di ricerca
Dr. Enrica Marongiu earned her Master’s degree in Art History from the University of Turin with a thesis titled Caravaggio: la costruzione del corpus attraverso le mostre, dal 1922 al 1951. Her research focused on analyzing the role of exhibitions in defining the artistic corpus of the Baroque master and his inclusion in major public and private art collections.
Her academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree in Cultural Heritage, also obtained at the University of Turin, where her thesis already demonstrated a keen interest in historiographical criticism and artistic debate.
During her academic training, Dr. Marongiu gained significant professional experience. She collaborated with the Fondazione 1563 per l’Arte e la Cultura della Compagnia di San Paolo in Turin as part of the QUALE BAROCCO? project, conducting digital cataloging of artworks presented at the 1922 Mostra della pittura italiana del Seicento e del Settecento using the xDams platform. This role was instrumental in developing her expertise with advanced digital tools for research, contributing to the promotion and dissemination of cultural heritage.
In 2022, she also completed a curricular internship with the Education Department of the Royal Museums of Turin. During this experience, she participated in educational and outreach activities, contributing to the design of didactic programs aimed at enhancing cultural heritage and engaging diverse audiences.
Tancred Borenius: art historian, collector, and advisor to British collections
The research project examines the life and work of Tancred Borenius, a Finnish-born art historian and professor at University College London who significantly influenced British art collections but remains understudied in mid-20th-century art historiography. By analyzing his bibliography and archival materials in Italy and England, the study explores Borenius’s contributions to art journals, his advisory role with the English aristocracy, and his impact on public and private collections.
A key focus will include references to his role as an intermediary for England at international art exhibitions in the first half of the 20th century, including the 1922 Mostra della pittura italiana del Seicento e del Settecento, which will provide a foundation for reconstructing his personal collection.
The findings will be integrated into a linked open data platform, creating an ontological graph to connect Borenius’s roles and relationships, offering new insights into his legacy.
